The San Diego Growlers are proud to introduce one of the most decorated and experienced ultimate minds in San Diego as their head coach for the third season, Kevin Stuart.
Kevin Stuart started playing ultimate in high school in 1989 in Livingston, New Jersey. He went on to attend college at the University of Delaware on a swimming scholarship and where he helped restart the University’s ultimate program in 1994. He played for the University of Delaware from 1994 through 1997 before joining the Clemson University program for the 1999/2000 season.
Upon graduating, Kevin founded Helmar, a club team in Charleston, SC that he captained for the next two seasons (2000-2002). In 2003, Kevin moved to San Diego and joined the original PBR Streetgang. He was quickly nominated as captain and led the team from 2003 to 2006. In 2005 his on-field talent as a defender and skilled offensive handler helped earn PBR Streetgang a bid to Nationals. He captained San Diego United during the 2007 and 2008 seasons and then completed his long and successful playing career by helping Streetgang qualify for Nationals in 2009.
Kevin Stuart began his coaching career in 2007 leading the UCSD Air Squids. He continues to coach the Squids and has been instrumental in the program’s growth and consistent success. As a coach he led the Air Squids to College National berths in 2009, 2010 and 2014. He also served as San Diego Streetgang’s head coach from 2010 – 2015 and helped the team qualify for Club Nationals (2010).
Coach Stuart brings an immense amount of invaluable experience to the organization and the Growlers intend to rely heavily on his ability as not only a coach, but as a leader.
